Healthy Food for Children's Parties
A children's party need not be all about sugar-filled snacks, fatty foods, and fizzy drinks. After all, these things are unhealthy and can even cause hyperactivity in children. So as a responsible host, you should do your best to provide your little guests with fun, appetizing, and healthy foods and drinks.
For starters, make use of snacks and finger food recipes that involve fresh fruits. Avoid creating nibbles that contain sweeteners, preservatives, additives, food colouring, and other not so healthy substances. Examples of healthy choices include carrot and celery sticks with avocado dip, fresh fruits mixed in jellies, a bowl of cherries and strawberries, and a colourful platter of seedless grapes, watermelon wedges, mango slices, halved strawberries, etc. You can also make finger sandwiches by mixing any of these ingredients - wholegrain bread, ham, tomatoes, lettuces, cheese, and avocado.
As for drinks, you can easily whip up a healthy concoction of fruit shakes, smoothies, slushies, or juices. Again, fizzy drinks are not the ideal choice if you are really concerned about the children's wellbeing. When it comes to the cake, it is better to replace that with banana or carrot cupcakes. These are not only healthy alternatives; cupcakes are also easier to handle by kids and would reduce the mess plus the need for spoons and plates.
As you can see, there are a lot of options when it comes to healthy fare for a children's party. Just be reminded that proper food handling needs to be applied to all of the above, especially on the washing of fruits and vegetables. With that said, relish the enjoyment of your kid and his friends at the party!
